This may sound silly but it opened my eyes and gives me HOPE. I was watching Grey's Anatomy they happen to be celebrating the Day of the Dead....weird huh? Anyway, there was a scene where this spanish family had a setup of family passed away and marigolds everywhere....it was explained to Meredith that it is the one day our friends and family who we loved and lost can come visit us from Heaven. It was a beautiful scene where everyone she loved and lost was surrounding her as she walked through the halls of the hospital. I always thought of this day whether spooky but now I am pleased to know that special day my friends and family has been with me each year they have been gone in heart, mind and maybe even spirit. I know it may sound silly to most but it made an impression on my heart. So I may not celebrate as others but every time I see a marigold flower it will remind me of those loved, loss and close to my heart.
It is believed that the spirits of the dead visit the living during the celebration. Marigolds guide the spirits to their altars using their vibrant colors and pungent scent.
Marigolds, or flowers in general, also represent the fragility of life.
